Why Corrected Calcium?
About 40% of calcium in the blood is bound to albumin. When albumin levels are low (hypoalbuminemia), total calcium may appear falsely low even though the active (ionized) calcium may be normal.
Formula: Corrected Ca = Total Ca + 0.8 × (4.0 - Albumin)
